Prakash Padukone is a noted Badminton player of India. He was a national badminton champion for 9 consecutive years during 1971-1979. He also won Badminton Grand Slam by winning three major international badminton tournaments in 1980.
Prakash Padukone was bom in Bangalore, Karnataka in 1955. He did his graduation from Bangalore. He had a talent for playing badminton from his childhood. So he became the National Junior Badminton Champion at the age of 14 and the national champion at the age of 15. His sportsmanship shone after taking training in Denmark. Padukone came into limelight in 1971 and represented India at various International Badminton Tournaments.
He had defeated onetime great player Lim Swiking in All England Championship in 1980. Padukone represented India in Thomas cup matches. In 1974, he won a bronze medal in the 7th Asian Games at Tehran. He also won a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and received Aijuna Award in 1972.
His major achievements were World Championship in 1983 in Copehagen, Denmark, Commonwealth Games in 1978 in Canada, World Cup in 1981 and World Grand Prix in 1979 in Denmark.
After his retirement in 1991, he was the chairman of the Badminton Association of India for a short while. He was also the coach of the Indian National Badminton team from 1993-1996.
