S w a m j Chinmayananda was a great yogi and exponent of Vedanta. He was an explorer and exponent of the bigger world, that is inner world of human mind.
He explained the scriptures of India with clarity throughout the world.
Swamiji was born in 1916 Ernakulam in Kerala. After his schooling in Kerala, he joined Lucknow University for his master’s degree in English literature. His childhood name was Balakrishnan, who later came to be known as Swami Chinmayananda.
Swamiji was greatly influenced by Maharaj of Uttarkasi, Swami Tapovan and Swami Sivananda. His spiritual journey began and he worked earnestly for 40 years to bring the lost spiritual revival in India. He organised a series of Jnana Yagnas every year in prominent cities. He founded the Chinmaya Mission for spreading the knowledge of Vedanta. Many other activities like social, educational and cultural were led under the guidance of Swamiji. In Chicago in 1993, he represented the Hindu Religion at the Parliament of World Religions. He wrote about 30 books on different aspects of religion. After leading a satisfied life and achieving his goal in life, Swami Chinmayananda, attained mahasamadhi in San Diego of California.
Swami Chinmayanandji died on 3 August 1993 in San Diego, California after suffering his fourth heart attack. He was aged 77 at the time of his death. His morkal remains were placed in a Samadhi on 19 August 1993, at the Sidhbari Ashram in the Himalayas.
